The Government of Montserrat to Introduce more Legislation to Safeguard Young People

The government of Montserrat hopes to pass legislation this year to assist children who come into conflict with the law.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Secretary the Honourable Veronica Dorsette Hector in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Speaking on the budget she said the government has been receiving support from the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States… OECS.

A report by the OECS, states that although legislation dealing with child offenders exist, an adequate social services delivery system to support this legislation in the sub-region is blatantly lacking.

Mrs. Dorsette Hector says the government is also working on a draft of the national policy for the care of older persons, and a draft social protection policy, which adheres to principles of good governance.
