Montserratian Pilots Challenge Findings of Airport Aircraft Suitability Study
Two seasoned Montserratian Pilots have given their thoughts on the recently-released study and findings on the suitability of aircraft operating into and out of the John A. Osborne Airport.
This performance and operating cost investigation, commissioned by the Governor’s Office here, aimed to provide an independent assessment of the viability of operating various types of aircraft at the John A Osborne Airport.
The data analysis was carried out by Energy Aviation Services in the Summer of 2023.
Appearing on the What’s on your mind radio programme Thursday morning, Captains Tony Meade and Karl Burke challenged the findings of the report and the recommendation that the Twin Otter aircraft that was designed specifically for the John A. Osborne Airport was not a suitable option.
Captain Tony Meade started out by challenging the grounds on which restrictions were put in place to limit aircraft operations rather than improving airport efficiency as is done around the world.
He also makes a case for the twin otter to operate into and out of Montserrat.

Meantime, Captain Burke, who perused the report was very thorough in his feedback especially as it pertained to the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the study.
