Montserrat to be Represented at Upcoming Civil Society Engagement Forum

Local Ocean Conservationist Veta Wade, will represent the interests of Montserrat and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) at the upcoming Civil Society Engagement Forum, next month.

Set for May 12-13, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Forum aims to integrate diverse stakeholder perspectives into the recommendations for enhancing the SIDS Partnership Framework.

This framework emerged as a critical outcome from the Fourth International Conference on SIDS, held in Antigua and Barbuda in May 2024, where the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States: A Renewed Declaration for Resilient Prosperity (ABAS) was adopted.

As part of her role, Wade- a leading Caribbean-based blue economy advisor, will engage with other civil society representatives to address key priorities, challenges, and opportunities related to the implementation of the ABAS with a special focus on closing the blue economy finance gap in SIDS.

The SIDS Partnership Framework is essential for monitoring and stimulating partnerships that support sustainable development in SIDS.

Wade's participation underscores the vital role of civil society in shaping the SIDS agenda and advancing sustainable development efforts across regions.
