Joint FCDO and UK Armed Forces Visit Montserrat to Strengthen Island's Disaster Contingency Planning

A joint team from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) of the UK Armed Forces is in Montserrat to support and strengthen the island’s natural disaster contingency planning.

As part of a wider Caribbean regional mission, the multidisciplinary team is working to update humanitarian response plans, strengthen partnerships with key emergency organizations, and enhance readiness for natural disasters.

On Thursday, the team met and briefed Her Excellency the Governor, Ms Harriet Cross, at the Governor’s Office. They also visited the Montserrat Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA), Glendon Hospital, the John A. Osborne Airport, and the Montserrat Port Authority.

The team continued its mission on Friday with visits to private sector entities, Royal Montserrat Police Service, Montserrat Fire and Rescue Service, and a special visit to Plymouth to assess the port facilities there.
