Local CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Compile Report on Youth Participation & Development in Montserrat
CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) for Montserrat, Nish Brown and Dr. Tiffannie Skerritt-Flemming, have compiled a report on youth participation and development in Montserrat.
The report stems from the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) held in Barbados in February.
Following a presentation by the Dean of the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Programme (CYAP) on behalf of the Corps, Prime Minister of Barbados and CARICOM Chair, Mia Amor Mottley, welcomed the voice of youth, and reaffirmed the commitment to involve CARICOM Youth Ambassadors in a more substantive and sustained manner.
With this support, she formally invited the CYAP to submit a short paper for consideration by the CARICOM Bureau at the next Heads of Government meeting to be held in July 2025 in Jamaica.
In Montserrat, three youth focus group meetings were held on May 14, 15, and 22nd, with 33 participants from various community groups. The participants provided comprehensive and diverse insights into development priorities and youth engagement strategies.
Dr. Flemming spoke with ZJB News about the report, explaining their data collection method as well as key questions being asked.
Meanwhile, CARICOM Youth Ambassador Nish Brown shared some of the key findings from the focus groups.
He also also discussed the different sectors on island that the youth believe should be prioritized.
