Volcanic Ash Ideal for Use in Construction Sector, says Economist

An economist believes raw materials deposited by the volcano would save the government vital foreign exchange.

Daniel Arthurton, an advisor to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank says the pumice if used with other raw materials could drastically reduce imports.

He says the manufacturing of roofing products is just one of several examples.

However, he is warning the government against pandering to specialist interests as it seeks to develop the economy to a sustainable level.

Mr. Arthurton was speaking at a national consultation for the 2nd Growth and Resilience Dialogue at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Agency Office here.
