Montserratian Margaret Greer to Become New Mayor of London Borough of Enfield, United Kingdom
A Montserratian has made history in the London Borough of Enfield, United Kingdom, becoming the first Mayor of Caribbean heritage to take the office.
Margaret Greer, whose maternal roots trace back to the island, will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 14th May at 7 PM (UK time), with the ceremony streamed live from Enfield’s Civic Centre.
Margaret Greer is a seasoned advocate for race equality and social justice, currently serving as the National Officer for Race Equality at the UK’s largest trade union, UNISON.
Her efforts in the fight against racism and inequality have been recognised with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Award.
In her previous role as Deputy Mayor and now as Mayor-elect, she has been a visible force for collaboration, working alongside local leaders and organizations to address pressing community issues.
Deeply rooted in her faith and community work, Greer has also served as the London District Representative to the Methodist Church Conference since 2021.
In 2024, she took on further responsibilities as Trustee Hackney Methodist Church Circuit Steward and Trustee of the Boiler House Spaces, a community charity in North Hackney.
