Local Nurses Recognized In Light of Nurses' Week 2025

Nurses on Montserrat are being recognized this week for the vital role they play in the island’s healthcare system.

As Montserrat celebrates Nurses Week 2025, under the theme “Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies”, Minister of Health Dr. Ingrid Buffonge highlighted the importance of investing in nurses not only as a moral imperative but as a smart economic decision.

She emphasized the need for fair wages, mental health support, and continued education opportunities to build a resilient nursing workforce that can sustain and improve the health system.

The health Minister also used her address to encourage young Montserratians to consider nursing as a noble and rewarding career.

Meanwhile, as part of the week’s activities, Nurse Brenda Daley led efforts to recognize both current and retired nurses here on Tuesday.

Nurse Daley paid tribute to nursing pioneers such as Sister Marjorie Joseph, Nurse Mary Mason- the island’s first nurse anesthetist, and several others who laid the foundation for today’s nursing professionals.

Nurse Daley acknowledged the contributions of veteran and active nurses who are still serving, despite the current shortages, urging the community to continue showing love and appreciation for these dedicated healthcare workers.
