Montserrat Participates in Regional Forum on School Safety in Saint Lucia

Montserrat was among nine Caribbean countries represented at the Fourth Caribbean Ministerial Forum on School Safety, held in Saint Lucia earlier this month.

Acting Director of Education Dr. Sheron Burns was at the May 14th to 15th forum participating in high-level discussions focused on strengthening school safety and resilience across the region.

Hosted under the theme "Increased collaboration and action for school safety in the Caribbean," the Forum brought together Ministers of Education from Caribbean Safe School Initiative (CSSI) countries, regional bodies, youth delegates, and international partners.

The event, co-organized by the Government of Saint Lucia and several agencies including CDEMA, UNDRR, UNICEF, and UNESCO, emphasized shared learning and renewed commitments to the CSSI and the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF).

During the two-day forum, participants reviewed regional progress, launched a new CSSI Monitoring Tool, and addressed key issues such as resilient school infrastructure, early warning systems integration, and violence prevention.

Youth delegates played an active role, presenting recommendations from the Third Youth Forum and advocating for inclusive decision-making in school safety planning.

The outcomes of the Forum—including updated national commitments and inputs from youth—will contribute to the Safe Schools Ministerial Round Table at the upcoming Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025).
